The Winter Haven Municipal Airport (KGIF) is located in the central portion of Polk County. Close to the georgraphical center of the state, nearly equal distance from the east and west coast and half way between the Georgia-Florida border and the southern tip of the peninsula, Polk County is located within the Interstate-4 corridor approximately 25 statutue miles east of Tampa and 35 statute miles southwest of Orlando. The airport is comprised of approximately 450 acres of land. You can also enjoy breakfast or lunch at the newly opened Pappy's Grill located at the airport terminal. Hours are 7 a.m. - 2 p.m. daily. Even though located directly adjacent to the Winter Haven Municipal Airport, Eagles Landing is a quiet well designed community with beautiful mature landscaping throughout. The incorporation of green space and park areas give the community a comfortable relaxed atmosphere to be enjoyed by all. The Eagles Landing Homeowners Association is very active and maintains the common areas, roads, and the airplane shaped swimming pool. More information on the Homeowners Assocation and the community can be viewed at elhoafl.org The association is responsible for issues pertaining to the community only. The Winter Haven Municipal Airport is owned and operated by the City of Winter Haven. This particular set-up of being adjacent to the airport, but not responsible for the operation and maintenance as community, provides an alternative to the traditional airpark association management and removes the runway managment issues from the neighborhood. This offers a great alternative to individuals who do not want to be involved in an airpark association but would enjoy being in a community environment that is aviation oriented with municipal airport access at their convenience. Eagles Landing is a small close knit community with a great group of very active pilots. The local flying club "Winter Haven Pilots Association" is always on the go and keeps a great schedule for interesting upcoming fly outs for lunch and other adventures. The association is comprised of approximately 200 members for an annual fee of just $10.00 each. Members join from all over the state to be a part of this very active flying group. The association plans two fly-outs a week, on Wednesday and Saturday, weather permitting for a breakfast or lunch destination. The fly outs average anywhere from 11 to 20 airplanes with an average of 20 to 40 people based on the season of the year. The association forwards a monthly news letter to the members as well and two weekly notices advising of the fly-out plans. The association hosts an annual Fly-In each year in November for guests and holds three potluck picnic lunches each year for it's members at the Winter Haven Airport Picnic area. There is also an active EAA chapter on the field with an impressive machine shop and information can be viewed at www.eaa229.org Another great attraction located just southwest of the Winter Haven Airport is Brown's Seaplane Base. Since 1963, Brown's has trained over 17,000 seaplane pilots from all over the world. Mr. Brown chose the central Florida area as the location for his base because of its abundance of freshwater lakes and superb flying weather. As much as this is a seaplane training business, it is also a place where you will come as a stranger, leave as a friend, and know you are always welcome to return. Located in Winter Haven you have access to all local attractions and the convenience of restaurants, shopping, and medical care close at hand. This location also gives you convenient access to I-4 providing an easy communte to Tampa or Orlando for easy day trips.
